There was a Community Policing Office not far from the beach

There was a Community Policing Office not far from the beach, the kinder, gentler Harbor Town version of the Watch. I was lucky, as it only operated from one to three in the afternoon. Two rather beefy pretend cops in a sort of uniform were holding the fort, each at a computer, which was making sounds, which somehow put me in mind of Mum. Solitaire.
I informed them of my missing friend.
“So? What do you want us to do about it? ”
“Do you see us carrying?”
“We aren’t even allowed to direct traffic!”
“You want to call the Watch. You need the number?”
“So what are you allowed to do?”
“Not much.”
“So what are you doing?”
“Police business, son”.
‘Why the look? Community Policing has reduced violence in Harbor Town by eighty per cent over the last five years.”
“Wow! You folks should be in the Middle East.”
“Do you have a leash for that dog?”
